Maybe the world will end in 2012. Think about, if Dick Clark were to pass between now and 2013, who would help us usher in the Rocking New Year? Ryan Seacrest, please… I sincerely doubt Mr. Seacrest would continue to seek plastic surgery after age 70. He just doesn't have the commitment to being “forever young.”
It is a new year and 2011 is a special year. We are going to have 53 Saturdays. Does it get any better? Today you can do whatever you want, it's a total expression of who you are. If you're recovering from last night's excessive partying, that's great. If you got up this morning and started a diet, that's great. If you woke up this morning and said, "that's great" that's great too.
The date is 1.1.11; clearly, with all those ones staring you in the face, it has to be the beginning of something great. How are you going to introduce yourself to the new year? And is the way you introduce yourself, the way you plan on behaving for the rest of the year?
Starting on 1.1.11, how will you express the love you feel for your family? What things can you do to improve the quality of life for the people you live and work with?
Resolutions are great, commitments to a better life… are better. If we have less than 770 days left on planet Earth, based upon the Dick Clark/Mayan calendar model, (Something equally as valid as global warming projections) then how hard can it be to do some remarkable and passionate things with the time we have left?
Let people know they are important in your life. Say thank you, say please. Try to move one step closer to God, every day. Try to reflect more of God's love, in this special way you are designed to reflect his grace. Demonstrated compassion and offer encouragement.
Use your skills gifts and talents like they are divine gifts from our Creator. Use everything you know, everything you feel and everything you do to be of service to others.
These are hardly radical ideas, they are the values that separate humans from crocodiles. Leave the swamp of 2010, walk with your head held high, make things better and give a shit.
